Britvic is one of the world’s leading producers of soft drinks, with 39 beloved brands enjoyed in over 100 countries. Having collaborated with Britvic on several projects, they came to us to create an application aimed at enhancing the efficiency and management of their Global Premium Adult (GPA) brands.
Britvic initially approached us for a “digital solution” to help them expand into emerging markets. Their goal was to boost adoption and retention of their product ranges. To truly understand how this could be achieved, we set out to explore these markets firsthand.
Our journey took us to Southeast Asia, where we visited a variety of businesses—from small independents to large regional franchises. We spoke with business owners and staff, discussed their challenges, and observed the day-to-day operations of their businesses.
One key takeaway was the strong desire for more support in promoting Britvic’s brands. Business owners expressed the need for tools to access localised labels, order point-of-sale (POS) materials, download brand assets, and even use sales presentations that would help their local reps showcase the unique selling points (USPs) of Britvic products compared to local competitors.
During the discovery phase, it became clear that Britvic needed a robust online brand portal to streamline everyday tasks for their users. This portal would enable different user types to handle a variety of activities, from ordering POS items to allowing local Britvic teams to download regional nutritional labels or even find inspiration through creative recipe ideas.
Britvic also wanted a solution that could be implemented globally across their entire brand library. To meet this need, the portal was designed to support a wide range of brand styles—spanning everything from London Essence to Fruit Shoot—while keeping costs and setup times for new brand instances to a minimum.
A robust multi-regional, multi-brand solution
The solution called for a custom-designed portal, built from the ground up using the Symfony framework and Kunstmaan CMS. This approach allowed for a fully modular design, making it easy to support multiple regions and languages.
A critical factor in the portal’s success was its ability to integrate seamlessly with Britvic’s existing systems. These integrations included the Britvic Content Delivery Network (CDN), their in-house asset library, and internal ordering systems. By connecting these components, we ensured smooth, frictionless interactions between Britvic, their distributors and their customers.
To complement the powerful functionality and seamless integrations of the new solution, Britvic emphasized the need for a highly refined user interface that ensured all portals aligned perfectly with each brand’s unique identity and guidelines.
Key stakeholders from each brand played a vital role in the design process. Collaborating closely, we ensured the look and feel of the portal tied in beautifully with all of the other brand assets.
The ability to 're-theme' these portals allowed the brand marketing teams to create new campaigns periodically that could easily be reflected in the online design of the portal.
A global solution, for a global company
Building on the success of the initial launch, we’ve designed and implemented additional functionality to further enhance the portals. These updates were informed by post-launch reviews and user testing, reflecting our commitment to continuous improvement.
Thanks to the portals’ shared codebase, new features and enhancements are developed once and seamlessly rolled out across all instances.
The current solution offers Britvic a cutting-edge, scalable platform with multi-brand, multi-region, and multi-language capabilities. It integrates seamlessly with various APIs and third-party systems, delivering a truly robust and flexible architecture.
