Fortem provides specialist property solutions designed to keep homes and buildings running smoothly with over 400,000 repairs annually on their managed properties.
They sought a new solution to streamline and manage these operations with the goal of enhancing efficiency and delivering cost-effective solutions across their property portfolio.
Having struggled to find the right solution in the past, Fortem turned to us for help. We suggested a design sprint to quickly identify, evaluate, and prototype potential solutions. This approach allowed us to gather feedback and refine the prototype before moving into full development.
We ensured that the experts who would use the app - housing officers and maintenance engineers - were involved throughout the design sprint. They shared real-world scenarios, outlined their needs and aspirations, and highlighted the pain points in the current workflow.
We designed, prototyped, tested, and developed a new app to streamline the workflow of recording, tracking, and resolving issues across Fortem's managed properties, supporting their 'Active Asset Management' approach.
The app leverages Microsoft’s LUIS machine learning technology, enabling on-site employees to easily make referrals by describing the issue and capturing a photo. The AI analyzes both the photo and audio description, linking the issue to the appropriate trade and determining its urgency. To protect privacy, any detected faces or documents within the image are automatically identified and blurred.
Fully integrated end-to-end solution
The app syncs seamlessly with Fortem's central data warehouse, enabling the company to identify trends and proactively address areas for preventative maintenance, such as the reliability of specific boiler brands or the lifespan of various components.
Now an integral part of Fortem's digital toolkit, the app is used on a national scale, connecting daily maintenance activities to capital investment decisions, providing a deeper understanding of their property portfolio.
