A multi-faceted intermediary mortgage calculator
Overview
Cumberland Building Society (CBS) was established over 150 years ago and is the 10th largest building society across the UK. With a huge customer base and existing website, they required a new, robust Intermediary Mortgage Calculator tool from both design and functional standpoints. This will be a focal point for CBS moving forwards as they aim to offer an improved digital experience and wider intermediary offering.

In the discovery stage, it became apparent that the tool needed to accommodate a range of possible outcomes as CBS pride themselves on working with intermediaries to find a solution for their clients. Therefore the structure of the tool was purposefully ordered to provide outcomes as soon as possible, respecting the users time. All results offer rational as well as avenues for the intermediary to explore.
Given the audience, a need for applying specific product rates and adjusting term durations gives intermediaries greater control when working with their clients to find the most desirable outcome.

Fully integrated and CMS managed
Working within the framework of the existing website, the tool was a largely standalone piece to be integrated into the current site. Due to its very nature as a Mortgage Calculator, it was also a highly project that involved working closely with CBS’ technical, mortgages, and testing teams to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and usability.
Enhance
Future phases for additional mortgage options
For phase 1 the tool is designed to calculate Capital & Interest and Interest Only mortgages. With future phases aiming to introduce Holiday Let, Buy To Let and Part and Part mortgages. Alongside additional functionality the performance of the tool is closely monitored and improvements made where required.
